History |
Following on from a visit to Birmingham by a delegation from the City of Omiya, Japan, the city council decided to present a bonsai tree to strengthen the ties between the two cities. The tree a 250 year old Chinese Juniper, had formerly been owned by one of Japan's foremost bonsai families, the Kato family. The tree was formally presented in October 1995 by the Deputy Mayor of Omiya, Mr Tokio Kawano, together with a delegation of City Councillors On permanent loan to the National Bonsai Collection from the City of Birmingham |
